Seychelles is every bit the dazzling beach destination you’ve seen on postcards and have been dreaming of. The best time to visit Seychelles is from April to May and October to November, the transition period between the two trade wind systems that influence weather conditions on the islands.
You will also find the months of December and January, as well as July and August to be popular times to visit Seychelles.
It’s summer in Seychelles, and it’s also the wettest month of the year. Rain spells are typically short, followed by clear skies and lots of sunshine. Temperatures are in the upper 20s, and humidity levels are high. It’s a busy time on the islands due to the festive season and holiday crowds.

April is a transition month on the islands – when the weather pattern changes from the north-westerly to the south-easterly trade wind system. With daytime temperatures touching 30°C, clear blue skies and little to no rain, it is one of the best times to visit Seychelles. Excellent underwater visibility makes this month great for diving.
We recommend

Overview
The southeasterly winds start to set during this month and drive down humidity levels. Temperatures are still around 29-30°C. Rain showers, if any, tend to be short, and there are plenty of sunshine hours to enjoy. The seas can get choppy when the winds pick up, and it’s a good idea to stay on the western side of the islands.

We recommend
Head to the Aldabra Atoll or Shark Bank for some incredible diving

Best time to visit Seychelles – By season
Though part of the African continent, weather patterns in Seychelles are very different from other African countries and quite unpredictable due to its distance from significant land masses.
Temperatures in Seychelles vary very little, staying in the 27°C to 30°C range throughout the year. What does change, between the two main seasons, are the wind conditions, amount of precipitation and seaweed levels.
Northwest monsoon – This season extends from November to April and is the period when the islands get rain and it is hot and humid.
November acts as a transition month and is one of the best times to visit Seychelles. It’s quieter with the summer crowds having left and the year-end festive season crowds yet to arrive.
The northwest trade winds set in completely by December. Rainfall levels are highest from December to February, with January seeing the most rain. Regardless, December, especially during the second half, is a popular time to visit the islands as people from around the world head to the islands in search of sun and surf.
The trade winds sweep seaweed to the beaches on the northwest coast, such as the Côte d’Or beaches in Praslin and the Beau Vallon beach in Mahe.
If you are visiting during this time, it’s best to stay at resorts on the island’s east side.
April is one of the driest months of the year and the best time to go to Seychelles.
Southeast monsoon – This runs from May to September. The southeast trade winds start to set in by April and May and you will experience plenty of sunshine-filled days, blue skies and incredible water clarity during this period, making it the best time to visit Seychelles.
From June to August, the southeast winds churn up seaweed onto the southern shores of Mahe and Praslin islands, and beaches on the southern side see choppy waves. However, this period is quite dry and coincides with the popular holiday season. As long as you plan well in advance, it is the best time of the year to visit Seychelles.
Best time to visit Seychelles – By activity
Snorkelling and diving – The islands see the least winds during April, May, October and November, making these months the best time to visit Seychelles for underwater activities.
Turtle hatching – Seychelles is famous for its colonies of Hawksbill and green turtle nests. October to March is the best time to see them nesting and hatching. Mahe, Cousine Island and the Astove Atoll are the places where you can experience this sight.
Birdwatching – The islands of Seychelles are a birdwatcher’s paradise. While you can spot many endemic birds throughout the year, the breeding period from April to October is the best time to spot some of the 250+ bird species found here. The islands of Mahe and La Digue, Vallée de Mai in Praslin, Aride Island and Bird Island are the best places for birdwatching in Seychelles.
Hiking – Copolia Trail, the Vallée de Mai Trail, and the Morne Blanc Trail are just some of the trails you can hike while visiting Seychelles. The period from April to October offers perfect weather conditions to explore the islands, making it the best time to visit Seychelles for land adventures.
Surfing – The southeast trade winds whip up some solid waves from June to August, making it the best time to visit Seychelles for surfing. You will find great surfing spots on Praslin and Mahe Island.
What to pack for Seychelles?
With some of the most picturesque beaches in the world, swimwear should be at the top of your packing list for Seychelles. Along with swimsuits, pack a few sarongs and cover ups. Flip flops and sandals are comfortable for walking around the beach, and a pair of dive shoes will serve you well during snorkelling excursions. Apart from this, carry sunglasses, sun hats, sunscreen and mosquito repellant.
Daytime temperatures in Seychelles are about 30°C, year-round, with 80% humidity. We recommend you pack clothes made from natural materials such as cotton and linen to stay comfortable. Relaxed casual is the dress code on the islands, so shorts and T-shirts work well. For evenings, when you want to dine out at a resort or casino, short or long dresses for ladies and long pants with short-sleeved shirts for men are most appropriate.
The islands have plenty of hiking trails, and if you are planning to explore some, pack a pair of good quality walking or hiking shoes.
