The Sarai at Toria

The Sarai at Toria is an eco-conscious boutique accommodation near the famed Khajuraho Temples and the Panna Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh.

It is run by conservationists and nature lovers - Dr Raghu Chundawat and his wife, Joanna Van Gruisen. Set by the Ken River, the lodge provides a mix of rustic beauty and modern conveniences. Unwind in one of six spacious mud cottages with high ceilings that naturally regulate indoor temperature. The cottages are designed with colourful elements, warm wooden furniture, and windows that let in plenty of sunlight and air. The Sarai also offers mezzanine cottages that connect to neighbouring ones through a machan, perfect for friends and families travelling together. Food at the Sarai is a thoughtful affair with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and home-style dishes from around the world made using locally sourced ingredients. Guests can also sign up for cooking demonstrations. The Sarai offers plenty of opportunities to get up close with nature; float down the river on a boat at dawn or sunset, hike along the river or the Toria village, or book a safari at Panna Tiger Reserve. The famous Khajuraho temples are a short half-hour car ride from the property. If you are looking for offbeat adventures, the lodge arranges trips to nearby waterfalls and other historical sites.
