The idea of lying on a beach and hearing the ocean waves lap on to a sandy shore sounds idyllic...

Fremont Street Las Vegas

The idea of lying on a beach and hearing the ocean waves lap on to a sandy shore sounds idyllic but for me, it has always been the exuberance and excitement of Vegas that I’ve always been drawn to.

To share my love of Vegas with you, I’ve put together my top tips for visiting this unique city. With so much to do and see, it’s hard to sum it all up in one blog but I think just take Vegas for what it is – an intoxicating hit on the senses, full of bright lights, brashness and big scale fun and decadence.

Tip 1

Pack comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking to be done. The hotels themselves are huge and that is no exaggeration. You’ll want to explore every one of them and plot your itinerary for your evening’s entertainment including the many bars, restaurants and clubs. Here are a few of my favourites;

Tao at the Venetian
Book yourself a table as soon as you get your holiday details as you won’t want to miss this and their tables book up fast. Tao is an Asian Bistro which serves amazing food in a truly unique venue that is simply out of this world. Make sure each of you order something different though, as this restaurant is all about the sharing! After you have eaten, you can carry on your party in the nightclub upstairs. Expect dancing on tables, confetti falling from the ceiling and…Well, I don’t want to spoil it as you’ll just need to see for yourselves.

The Wicked Spoon at the Cosmopolitan Hotel
A bustling food hall where there is an abundance of well crafted original selections to satisfy everyone’s appetite. Whether it’s an interesting and delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner you want, you’ll get it here.

Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill at Caesars Palace
I know, you go all the way to Vegas and I’m telling you about an English pub!  This is the perfect place for celeb-spotting; make sure you get a seat right at the front of the restaurant. In fact, The Seahorse Lounge at Caesars is another great place for this too.

My other recommendations in this eclectic city are FIX at the Bellagio, the Beach Cafe Restaurant at Tropicana, the Lake of Dreams at the Wynn and far too many others to mention!

Tip 2

Vegas comes alive at night so be sure to soak up the atmosphere with a walk down the famous Strip. There are a number of free entertainment spots which you can’t leave Vegas without seeing, so keep an eye out.

You can’t miss a visit to the famous fountains at the Bellagio, which offers a truly amazing display of water, music and lights. There is a show every thirty minutes during the day and then every fifteen minutes at night.

Another must-see is the Volcano at The Mirage, every hour after dusk, the Mirage Volcano explodes and a one-of-kind show of fire and water begins to add a bit of excitement to your evening’s plans.

Tip 3

With numerous activities going on in Fremont Street in Downtown, stop at a local bar and take in the electric atmosphere. The Griffin was our first pit stop and it couldn’t help but remind me of a skiing lodge. Our group were all gathered around an open fire drinking and just chilling out, a great place to start your night as it has a very relaxed atmosphere. The second bar we went to was called Commonwealth, it has three bars so make sure you take a look around and pick the best one for you.

Tip 4

Take in at least one Cirque du Soleil show while you are in Las Vegas, they are spectacular. I have seen two and they were both very different; the acrobatics in Zarkana at the ARIA Resort and Casino were out of this world. The other shows I saw include Michael Jackson’s ONE, it’s definitely a highlight even if you aren’t a Michael Jackson fan. This show will have you mesmerised and of course, the 80s Jackson anthems are the icing on the cake.

Tip 5

I’ve been to Vegas in December twice now and there is one thing I’d like to point out; don’t think just because you are heading to the desert in December that it is still going to be hot because it’s not. It was actually colder than it was back in the UK, however, Vegas knows how to do Christmas! Make sure you visit both the Venetian and the Bellagio as they have some of the best festive displays.

On the flipside, be warned, if you don’t like heat then avoid the hottest summer months. September or October would be a perfect time for you. Although you could always just head to any of the pool parties and cool down that way. With a number of pools to pick from, there are quieter options if you want to escape the hustle and bustle.

Tip 6

I would never have put Vegas on my list of places to shop, as I assumed it would just be too expensive, but if you like shopping as I do then you’re going to love Vegas. Premium Outlets is probably the best place to go but you will need to get a taxi there. You’ll find all the branded shops you need and I can guarantee you will be buying a second suitcase to bring everything home in! Fashion Mall is also worth a visit, especially for those that like Abercrombie & Fitch.

Tip 7

When you’re in Vegas you can’t pass on a once-in-a-lifetime helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon. The flight we did travelled down into the Canyon where we had the chance to enjoy some bubbles, before returning back over the breathtaking Strip. I took hundreds of pictures so make sure you leave space on your camera.
