Start your Journey
San Jose
Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.
San Jose to Tortuguero
Early departure by road through the Braulio Carrillo National Park to the Caribbean plains, enjoying the spectacular mountain scenery and quaint villages en route. Later, continue through the jungle by boat and cruise the rivers and canals of Tortuguero National Park. After check-in and lunch at your eco-lodge, board the boat once again for a visit to the Tortuguero village, where you will walk around the town and experience the local way of life, walk along the beach (during hatching season you will look for baby turtles trying to find their way to the ocean; nesting is from July-Sept, hatching from Sept-Dec) and a visit to the Tortuguero Museum (recommended donation of US$1 per person). Enjoy the rest of the day relaxing at the hotel, surrounded by the beautiful tropical forest and wildlife.
Tortuguero National Park
Today, you have some free time to relax by the pool as well as experiencing the Tortuguero National Park for about 3 hours, where you can observe over 350 protected species of birds, monkeys, crocodiles, and sloths, amid lush vegetation. In season (July-Sept) you can join an optional late-night turtle nesting tour (payable locally).
Tortuguero National Park to Sarapiqui
Early departure by boat to Caño Blanco, where a bus will be waiting to continue your adventure to the fascinating Sarapiqui region, with its primary forest, swamps, and banana plantations. Temperatures in this biologically rich area hover around 26 to 28°C, important for the conservation of birds, butterflies, insects, and plants. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel. In the afternoon, you will be taken on a private guided hike through the forest in search of diverse wildlife and plant life.
Sarapiqui to Arenal
You have the morning to relax or do an optional activity such as horseback riding, rafting, visit to the butterfly farm, or a birdwatching tour at Selva Verde Private Reserve (payable locally). Later, relax and enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside of San Carlos Valley to La Fortuna in Arenal, home to one of the world's most active volcanoes. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.
Arenal
Enjoy a morning hike to La Fortuna Waterfalls, where you can swim or just enjoy the beauty of this idyllic spot. In the evening, you will visit the Eco Termales hot springs to relax in the thermal waters surrounded by the most amazing vegetation.
Arenal to Monteverde
Early departure to the cloud forest of Monteverde. The day begins with a transfer down to the lake where you will board a boat, then take a car/bus up to Monteverde. Admire the transition of the rainforest to the cloud forest as you reach an altitude of 1,200 metres above sea level. In the afternoon, we will head over to Selvatura Park for an exciting canopy tour, (for the less adventurous, you may choose to make your own way through the forest on the amazing hanging bridges) afterwards transfer to your hotel for check in and overnight stay.
Monteverde to Rincon de La Vieja
After breakfast, be transferred to the Rincon de La Vieja National Park, with its breathtaking scenery of cascading waterfalls, hot mud pots, and a freshwater volcanic lake. An impressive selection of wildlife includes insects, birds, and mammals such as spider monkeys, blue-crowned motmots, jaguars and pumas. After check-in at your hotel, get ready for the Rio Negro Tubing Adventure, (duration 3 hours), starting out with a horseback ride and then a short hike down to the river where you will hop into your own individual tub for your downstream river adventure. Alternatively, you may substitute the tubing tour for something a little less adventurous such as a visit to the national park, mud baths and thermal waters, or horseback riding to one of the beautiful waterfalls. Please advise at time of booking.
Rincon de La Vieja
Early morning transfer to the airport for your onward journey, or alternatively extend your stay in Costa Rica.
