As if jetting off on your dream holiday isn’t enough, British Airways has refreshed the Club World experience to deliver VIP treatment and absolute comfort during your flight.
Fly Club World and you’ll elevate your journey before you even arrive at your destination – here’s five things you’re going to love:
1. Exquisite, flavour-full meals
Aeroplane food often receives a bad wrap (excuse the pun) – and for good reason – out of necessity, aircraft galleys aren’t normally conducive to the production of gourmet cuisine. It tends to be bland and rather unappetising. It doesn’t help that we experience changes to our taste buds (and nasal passages) caused by high altitudes and the low humidity of recirculated air, which alters our sense of taste and smell but, of course, not everything can be blamed on travelling at 35,000 feet.
With a Club World upgrade, you can look forward to meticulously composed three-course menus crafted from high quality locally-sourced ingredients, inspired by the freshest seasonal produce, and elegantly presented – a feast for all the senses.
A variety of intolerances and dietary preferences are also catered for, with balanced choices offered which include gluten-free and vegan options.
Even the way your meal is served has been given a re-think. You’ll have the freedom to choose from a selection of starters, desserts and cheese plates; in addition, the glassware and china have been given a stylish and modern new look. The new food selection and beautiful new table settings will be available on all London Heathrow routes by late 2018 and on all London Gatwick routes by early 2019.
2. Make yourself at home, in the air
British Airways offers the Club Kitchen – a space set aside for passengers to help themselves to whatever takes their fancy, including a range of healthy snacks and indulgently ‘naughty’ treats. If you’re feeling peckish, before or after your meal, venture to the galley and you’ll find retro sweets, Cadbury’s chocolate and branded crisps as well as sandwiches, fresh fruit and salads.
A selection of Twinings teas and infusions is available, from traditional English Breakfast and Earl Grey tea to pure green tea and refreshing peppermint infusions, as well as a new blend from coffee artisans, Union Hand-Roasted Coffee.
3. “Wine is bottled poetry…”
… so said Robert Louis Stevenson, and British Airways’ wine expert has curated a fantastically lyrical wine list to complement the menu or be enjoyed in their own rights – Old World and New World wines are both represented.
In addition to the wine list you’ll also find a choice of Champagnes, premium branded spirits and mixers – including Tanqueray gin, Fever Tree tonic, Ciroc vodka and Glenlivet Master Distiller’s Reserve whisky – and some tempting apéritifs.
4. Lie down and float away: sweet dreams will be yours
In acknowledgement of the importance of sleep, British Airways have made their Club World cabins somewhere you’re really going to want to rest your head.
They’ve started with a spacious seat which converts into a fully flat comfortable bed and on top of this they’ve added in bedding that ticks all of the boxes. In a bid to pay attention to the finest of details, British Airways teamed up with luxury homeware brand, The White Company – so that every passenger is provided with a quilted mattress topper; a cosy duvet; a fluffy full-sized luxury pillow; and a gorgeously soft blanket – all of which can be used in whichever combination suits you. Linens are 200-thread-count pure cotton, for reassuring crispness and comfort, and everything is hypoallergenic.
A deluxe amenity kit with carefully chosen products will boost comfort of every aspect of your journey. You’ll find a pulse point oil, which contains calming lavender essential oil to aid relaxation; a restorative facial moisturiser and lip balm to combat dehydrated skin and leave it glowing; and a generously-sized padded eye mask to block out any residual light and help you drift off into a peaceful sleep.
5. A relaxing yet sophisticated ambience
The lighting in Club World cabins is kept low to aid passengers’ relaxation and sleep. In addition, service is attentive yet non-invasive – in particular, during long haul night flights, the cabin crew avoid disturbing passengers wherever possible so detailed individual preferences are noted early on: a nuanced service to suit your needs.
If you opt not to sleep then a range of entertainment is available, via the personal flat screen display and noise-cancelling headphones, including on-demand films, television programmes, music, games and audio books.
