The world has slowly but surely opened up over the last few months. While new COVID-19 variants continue to emerge across the globe, you do not have to put your travel plans on hold. You can still navigate the world by following protocols and travelling with companies that put your safety as their top priority. Our Chief Product Officer and Africa Expert, Florian Keller, gives us his assessment of the current situation and why it’s important to keep borders open.
Safari vacations are the way to go

A safari holiday into the game reserves of Africa is a great idea, if you want to escape the daily grind of city life and experience nature in all its glory. We recommend visiting in the low or shoulder seasons to avoid crowds. The expansive continent is rife with truly distinct opportunities such as gorilla tracking in Uganda, boat safaris in Botswana, hot air balloon rides in Masai Mara, luxury safari lodges in South Africa and the gorgeous Kenyan coastline, among others.
Pick from an array of safe and sustainable luxury lodges during your stay anywhere across Africa. As Florian Keller points out: “I live in Kenya and visited South Africa recently. I experienced first hand that all hotels and other travel providers follow very strict COVID-19 hygiene rules. I feel safe at all times in Kenya and South Africa and we receive the same feedback from all our guests.”
Private tours are safe

If you are worried about crowds and safety, consider going on a curated private holiday with a trusted company. Not only are private tours the safest option, but they also give you the flexibility to choose what you want to do during your travel and give you access to some truly exclusive experiences. You get to travel at your own pace as you go on your dream trip that has been tailor made keeping your interests and preferences in mind. Given the current climate especially, it’s perhaps the best way to see the world.
Travel bans are counterproductive

We’ve seen time and again that travel bans don’t do much in the battle against COVID-19. If anything, they prevent countries from being transparent about sharing critical information. Even the WHO condemned the recent travel ban imposed by numerous countries on South Africa and called for borders to be opened. Putting curbs on tourism can destroy economies. For instance, the game reserves of Africa depend on tourism income to a large extent in order to pay the salaries of rangers and subsequently keep a check on poaching.
Where can you go now?
We’ve missed travelling and we can’t wait to explore the world again. While travel restrictions have eased up to a great extent, many countries have their own set of guidelines, testing and quarantine regulations. Our travel coordinators and experts are updated on the latest developments and can support you with any assistance you might require on the ground or while planning your trip.
Florian Keller says: “Eastern Africa has not been affected by any travel restrictions so far. The incidence rate in Kenya, where I live, is very low, and the country has a very transparent COVID-19 policy. So, from my perspective, right now is a fantastic time to travel to Kenya in particular.”
It’s a good idea to check online resources and WHO advisories to keep a tab on the constantly changing travel regulations. Remember that our Carefree Guarantee gives you the freedom and flexibility to rebook your trip. Reach out to us and we’ll curate a safe, bespoke holiday that you’ll cherish for a long time!
