When to go to Bora Bora?
Are you planning your Tahiti holiday from the UK, but are wondering exactly when is the best time to holiday on this picturesque island? While the weather is warm year-round, the high season is from June to September, when blue skies and sunshine draw tourists. April, May and October are also agreeable months to visit, as these shoulder seasons see comfortable temperatures of 23-26 degrees centigrade, which means you can enjoy great weather without the crowds. The island experiences its low season from December to March. This is still a fine time to visit, though you should expect rainy days here and there and make sure to carry insect repellent.

One of the highlights of the island is that the accommodation options available almost rival the beauty of the surrounding. While there are quite a few properties to choose from, our Bora Bora travel experts have handpicked resorts that are luxurious, equipped with every amenity and offer a host of activities. Here is a small sample of what is on offer…
Bora Bora Hotel Highlights

The Conrad Bora Bora Nui on the private island of Motu To’opua boasts a long stretch of pristine beach. From your lagoon-view or overwater accommodation, wake up to stunning vistas each morning. Guests can stay moving all day, snorkelling, kayaking, playing golf at the 18-hole mini-course or swimming in the massive pool. In your down time, relax in your beautifully appointed villa with traditional Polynesian decor or enjoy an indulgent treatment in the spa. When it comes to food you don’t have to worry about variety. The resort has six restaurants and lounges, each with a distinct atmosphere and menu, including the fairytale setting of Iriatai, the signature French restaurant.
On Motu Tevairoa, you will find the plush Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort & Spa. Take in sweeping views of Mount Otemanu and access a private white sand beach that overlooks a coral garden. You can choose to stay in overwater, beachfront or garden bungalows that combine Polynesian design elements with modern comforts. As in other island resorts, there are a variety of activities available such as snorkelling, paddle-boarding and kayaking, as well as games including tennis and mini golf. The in-house TĀVAI Spa is known for its Polynesian massage. When it comes to dining, choose from three restaurants that serve delicious dishes and impressive views. The Otemanu Restaurant is at the highest elevation point at the resort, so guests can enjoy breakfast with peaceful views of the dazzling lagoon and Mount Otemanu, while dinner gives them the option to dine under the bright Milky Way.
Last, but certainly not the least, is the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa. This property is located on a private beach in Motu Piti Aau and can only be reached from the water. At this secluded hotel, stay in an opulent overwater villa where you can stand on your private terrace and take in breathtaking lagoon views. You can also directly access the clear waters from your accommodation. After a day of sun, sand and sea, you could visit the unique glass-bottomed chapel on the property. There is a state-of-the-art spa as well that offers a host of wellness treatments. When it comes to wining and dining there are two trendy bars and three elegant restaurants to choose from at this hotel.
French Polynesia Trip Planning
There is no doubt that Bora Bora is incredible but don’t miss the opportunity to explore more of French Polynesia. After a few days of relaxation and rejuvenation in your resort, boat cruises and lagoon explorations, you could travel to the islands of Huahine and Moorea. Here, too, you could check into overwater villas, which serve as a great base to explore the islands on a diverse range of excursions and activities. Take a hike through the scenic Tefarerii in Huahine, or sign up for a walking tour across the lush fields and plantations of Moorea.
Then there is Tahiti, the largest island in French Polynesia, where you can discover the local culture and history. A visit to an open-air stone marae (temple) that the ancient Polynesians built offers a glimpse into the past. At the beautifully restored Arahurahu marae, you could even watch a reenactment of ancient ceremonies if you’re visiting in July during the Heiva Nui dance celebrations. In Tahiti, you also have the opportunity of moving away from the coast and exploring the rugged mountains. As you traverse lava tubes and volcanic valleys, pass ancient archaeological sites and rock pools where you can take refreshing dips.
Whether swimming alongside dolphins and colourful fish in the waters of Bora Bora, touring the plethora of ancient temples scattered around Huahine, exploring the tropical interiors of Moorea or biting into French-inspired cuisine in Tahiti, this magical region has plenty to offer.
