Uncover the essence of Vietnamese culture as you explore two charming cities on this customisable holiday.
Hanoi is a fascinating mix of ancient and modern Vietnam. Visit landmarks such as the Temple of Literature, which once housed the country's oldest university, and the Old Quarter, brimming with shops selling a wide variety of traditional goods. Next, head for the ancient coastal town of Hoi An, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Stroll down its narrow streets, which are lined with lanterns and tailoring shops. Sit by the scenic riverside and watch the world go by from one of the cafés, or try haggling at the bustling central market. You could also head out of Hoi An to relax on some of central Vietnam's best beaches.

Start your Journey
Hanoi
Begin your exploration of Vietnam in the capital city Hanoi. We recommend a minimum of three nights here to experience the best of what this historic city has to offer. The Old Quarter is among our top recommendations for places to see. It is a maze of charming streets dating back to the 13th century, and many of the the narrow alleyways are named after the goods once sold there.
The Temple of Literature, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the One Pillar Pagoda are also worth visiting. If you have the time, head to the iconic Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and spend a night cruising among its picturesque limestone cliffs. It is about four hours drive from Hanoi, and the journey is absolutely worth it!
Hoi An
The beautiful and incredibly charming town of Hoi An is situated just south of Danang in central Vietnam. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old Town is characterised by winding lanes and beautiful Chinese-style architecture dating back to the 15th century.
Hoi An has many tailor shops, where you can get a local set of clothes stitched - an interesting and popular souvenir. In the evening, the town comes alive with with hundreds of colourful lanterns lighting up the streets and the Thu Bon river. We recommend spending about four nights here to really soak up the beauty of the town. If you would like to visit the beaches, then a week in Hoi An is ideal.
