In colourful Bo Kaap you can try some of the well known authentic Cape Malay cuisine before wandering through the brightly painted streets.
Cape Town’s pretty residential neighbourhoods are well worth exploring as well. City Bowl is the place to go for hip cafés and restaurants, while Woodstock offers trendy cultural centres and bars.

History and culture lovers will find a storied past in this cosmopolitan city. Visit Robben Island for a tour of the prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in incarceration. At sunset you can take a cable car up to Table Mountain to watch the sun set over the Cape Peninsula.

On arrival in Zanzibar you’ll instantly settle into the island’s calming rhythm. Over the centuries the name has become a byword for the exotic and far flung, a place where spices were traded and adventurers swapped tall tales. Today it retains much of the allure that made it a legendary destination all those years ago.

The winding streets of old Stone Town, with their coloured flags, bleached limestone buildings and elaborate carvings, are a beautiful place to while away an afternoon. You’ll also find vibrant markets and some excellent places to pick up gifts and souvenirs.

There are plenty of opportunities to relax too. Stunning Bwejuu Beach is the kind of white sand paradise you could travel the world and never hope to find. In the island’s interior, Jozani Forest is a spectacular swathe of rich green home to a wide variety of animals, including chameleon, red colobus monkey and suni antelope.
