San Jose
A local representative will be waiting to greet you and assist you at the airport, then transfer to your hotel in San Jose for your overnight stay.
San Jose to Tortuguero
Head north today to one of the most rugged regions in the country, the wonderful area of Tortuguero located in the North Caribbean. Breakfast will be on route whilst you continue to the dock to board the boat that will take you to the lodge where you will immerse yourself in a perfectly quite, laid back and tranquil stay.
Once you are at the Lodge, get comfortable and enjoy a tasteful lunch. In the afternoon, meet your guide for a tour through the Tortuguero Canals, a must while you are in Costa Rica. Discover its network of canals, lagoons and dense rainforests through an early boat tour guided by an expert naturalist guide. Abundant wildlife inhabits Tortuguero, including 57 species of amphibians, 111 species of reptiles, and 60 species of mammals. Return to the lodge to enjoy dinner.
The land and boat transfer to Tortuguero are on a shared basis. Private transfers are available at an extra cost.
Tortuguero
After breakfast, be ready to enjoy a guided nature walk through the private tropical trails of the lodge. Your guide will search for local species such reptiles, birds and some mammals. Monkeys are abundant in this region. Learn more about the dense vegetation while you fall in love of the wild environment.
During the afternoon, visit the enchanting village of Tortuguero. A town with a small population of around 500, no cars, and is located on a relatively narrow spit of land between the beach and a canal. Take a closer encounter with the Caribbean culture to discover its people and lifestyle walking through this colorful town.
Tortuguero to Arenal
After breakfast and check out be ready to continue your trip. You will board a shared transfer by boat and land from Tortuguero to the Restaurant located in Guápiles, where you will enjoy the lunch and continue to your next destination: La Fortuna de San Carlos, home of the majestic Arenal Volcano.
The rest of the day is at your leisure to immerse with natural surroundings and relax at the hotel.
Arenal
Today, get ready for doses of adrenaline on a zip line tour. Your tour will start riding an open-air gondola from the ground to the heights where you’ll be dropped off at an observation area for fantastic views. From this area, you will start riding down on a zip line track stretching across canyons and in between treetops, the exhilarating adventure of zip lining down the mountainside begins, ultimately returning you to the starting point at the main building. This is the most thrilling zip line in the country.
Your next visit is a must in this area, the Arenal Volcano tour starts with a drive to the western side of the volcano. Once there you will embark on a trail hike , which traverses the rainforest and crosses over a large lava flow. It is possible to observe a great variety of plants, wildlife and magnificent lava rock formations. Once on the top of the lava flow you will have a beautiful view of the Arenal Lake. The hike ends up at a viewpoint, where if the weather allows, you will be able to feel and see the different factors that makes the Arenal an active Volcano. The tour concludes with a relaxing stop at the mineral hot springs and a delicious dinner. Rest assured in the knowledge that it will be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
Arenal to Monteverde
At the agreed time, departure to your next destination, the pristine cloudforest of Monteverde. This is a transfer by boat and land on a fast and the newest way to go to the Monteverde area. You will aboard a very comfortable and safe pontoon boat for a 30 to 40 minutes (aprox.) ride to Río Chiquito, a little town at the other side of the lake. Once at Río Chiquito, we’ll leave the boat and make a short break to stretch your legs, after, another 1 hour thirty minutes microbus ride to get to the hotel in the Monteverde area, sometimes during the rainy season this transfer could take longer. Duration aprox of 3 ½ hours (Land and boat).
In the evening have an authentic cultural experience at Don Juan Coffee Tour. After a warm welcome, the tour begins with a brief insight into the wonderful world of coffee followed by the history of Costa Rican coffee and its importance in the socio-economic development. You will learn about the coffee, chocolate and sugar cane and also participate in the making process of these delicious treats.
Monteverde to Manuel Antonio
Before leaving Monteverde, discover its magical hanging bridges! you will go through and above the rainforest. A series of suspension bridges, connected by trails provides a birds-eye view of the rainforest canopy. From these bridges you will easily be able to study this unique tropical ecosystem, catching glimpses of birds, monkeys, sloths and more as they make their way across. And with the assistance of your tour guide you will learn about the plants, mammals and birds that call Monteverde home.
After this activity, depart to Manuel Antonio located in the Central Pacific Coast. The region is a treasure for biodiversity, attracting nature buffs, eco-travelers and adventure-seekers alike. Better yet, if you visit, you can enjoy the white sand and perfect waters. Without a doubt, Manuel Antonio lies within one of the country's most celebrated spots.
Manuel Antonio
This morning, you will set sail towards the horizon and cruise over sapphire hued waves. The catamaran will chart a picturesque course departing from Quepos and gliding around the back of the Manuel Antonio National Park. Your guide will point out notable wildlife and vegetation, so be sure to have your camera ready. You will go by amazing scenarios adorned with islands, cliffs and rock formations. You can admire bird nesting grounds and marine wildlife. Beverages and snacks are available onboard, throughout the trip. After touring the coastline, your captain will set anchor at Biesanz Bay where you can snorkel or simply rest onboard. You are most likely to spot parrotfish, starfish, angelfish and if you are lucky a dolphin! Water visibility depends of the season.
Departure
Decide to spend a few more days here enjoying the peaceful surroundings, transfer to the Papagayo Peninsula or return to San Jose for your flight home.
