Puerto Maldonado
As your plane lands at Puerto Maldonado Airport, you’ll be met and driven to the Tambopata River Port to board a boat to the Posada Amazonas Lodge.
Settle into this wonderful jungle lodge, then get ready for an unforgettable trip up into the jungle canopy. Climb the staircase to the top of the Canopy Tower, where breath-taking views of the stunning treetop wildlife await. A sea of trees unfolds around you, interrupted only by the winding Tambopata River.
This evening, enjoy a delicious dinner then learn more about the Infierno ecotourism project as you take in a fun and informative presentation at the lodge.
Puerto Maldonado
This morning, immerse yourself in the local wildlife as you take a trip to Lake Tres Chimbadas. Take to the water on a catamaran, keeping a look out for members of the otter family that call the lake home, and other wildlife, such as caiman, hoatzin and horned screamers.
This afternoon, you’ll get to visit Centro Ñape, a communal organisation that uses the forest plants to create natural medicines to treat patients that come to their clinic. Learn more about this fascinating natural remedy practice as you follow the trail set out by the organisation that will explain how the flora is used.
Head back to your lodge and enjoy another delicious meal in your natural jungle surroundings. After dinner, relax for the evening or venture back out on a hike.It’s a real experience as you explore the area in the dark, spotting tropical frogs and hearing their bizarre sounds.
Puerto Maldonado
Take a walk to the Parrot Clay Lick this morning and gaze out as dozens of colourful parrots and parakeets descend to feast on the clay along the riverbank.
After the morning’s birdwatching, join a two hour hike along the Ceiba Trail. As you walk the trail, learn about the rainforest’s natural history and tree species, and see the area’s largest tree: a giant ceiba tree, which belongs to the mallow family. Ancient Mayan communities once believed this tree stood at the centre of the earth.
After enjoying lunch back at the lodge, take to the river by boat. Journey thirty minutes downstream to a farm in Infierno, where you can marvel at the farm’s diverse array of Amazon crops, both popular and lesser-known species.
Puerto Maldonado - Lima
Your Amazonian adventure comes to an end today. Bid farewell to this incredible region and enjoy your last boat ride from Posada Amazonas to Tambopata River Port. You’ll be met and driven to Puerto Maldonado Airport, where you’ll catch your back to Lima.
