Ultimate Arctic Summer Adventure – Belugas and Polar Bears

When you arrive at Winnipeg International Airport, you will be able to use your taxi voucher provided to take you into Winnipeg city. You’ll then check into your hotel for a relaxing evening before your Ultimate Arctic Summer Adventure tour begins.

Following breakfast, catch your morning flight to Churchill. On arrival at Churchill, you’ll meet a representative who’ll accompany you to the Lazy Bear Lodge. There you’ll check in and meet your hosts who’ll be looking after you for the rest of your trip.

Then it’s time for an insightful cultural and heritage tour of the area. You’ll be taken to Churchill where you will explore your local surroundings to learn about the several historic spots and landmarks. These include Cape Merry and the remains of the famous plane crash of ‘Miss Piggy’.

Afterwards, you’ll be given the rest of the afternoon to explore Churchill in your own time. We suggest a visit to the Itsanitaq Museum or the Canada Parks Museum to learn even more about the local culture. There are also plenty of boutiques and shops to browse in town, where you can see the fascinating authentic Native Art.

After a tasty breakfast to start your day, it’s time for a full day Hudson Bay coastal tour out on the water. This is your first chance to look out for local wildlife and, as you sail along the coast and through several river estuaries, you’ll be able to observe the behaviour of the grand polar bears that frolic and play in their summer environment. Watch these beautiful snow white beasts swim in the waters and dry off on rocks that are surrounded by pretty natural flora.

After the excitement of polar bear spotting, dig into a tasty lunch served on board. Then it’s back to Lazy Bear Lodge where you’ll stay overnight once again.

Following a scrumptious breakfast, it’s time to take to the waves again for more wildlife spotting. This time, you’ll be sailing the seas on a three hour beluga whale boat tour in the Hudson Bay area. Keep your eyes peeled for the pale friendly faced beluga whales that are known to cruise the waters.

These mighty sea creatures are attracted to the waters of Hudson Bay, as the near coastal waters are both shallow and warm, offering ideal conditions for feeding, mating and giving birth. Your knowledgeable guide will offer an interesting commentary on these marvellous creatures and their habitat as you observe them feeding on schools of caplin, arctic char and brook trout.

For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you’ll also have the opportunity to snorkel and share the waters with the playful beluga whales as an optional extra. This one is not to be missed.

Your tour also includes a walking expedition of the aging Prince of Wales Fort where you can learn all about the area’s history. Then it’s overnight and a good night’s sleep at Lazy Bear Lodge.

It’s time for your last day at Lazy Bear Lodge. 

After breakfast, if there were any extra expeditions you requested that you were unable to take due to weather conditions or other factors, you can take them now. You’ll also have the chance to shop for souvenirs and presents for friends and family. 

In the afternoon, you’ll have some leisure time. Explore more of the fascinating town of Churchill, or embark on one of the many extra excursions on offer. 

Tonight, you’ll spend your last evening overnight at Lazy Bear Lodge.

After breakfast, you’ll be spending time on the land, with a three hour tour roaming the tundra on the Arctic Crawler™. You’ll explore the magnificence of the tundra landscapes, observing and learning about the nature of the sprawling surroundings. Watch out for the wandering wildlife, such as arctic foxes and arctic hares from the comfort and safety of your specially designed all-terrain Arctic Crawler™.

In the afternoon, you’ll be transferred to Churchill Airport for your return flight to Winnipeg. You’ll leave with plenty of incredible memories and photos of the fascinating creatures you’ve observed in the wildlife in Churchill and its surroundings.

Once you arrive in Winnipeg, catch the complimentary shuttle service back to the Hilton Winnipeg Airport Suites where you can relax and unwind on the final night of your arctic tour Canada.
