Things To Do In Botswana

There is no question too small. Start planning your dream trip by talking to our Destination Specialists

3. Explore the Okavango Delta

An incredible diversity of wildlife and fantastic experiences make the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the top Botswana tourist attractions. Float down rivulets on a traditional Mokoro (a canoe), go on horseback safaris, watch vast herds of zebras grazing, get a bird’s eye view of the expansive network of waterways on a helicopter ride and explore the region’s geography on informative bushwalks.

Spot the Big Five on exhilarating safari drives and watch elephant families frolic and hippos laze on boat safaris. A trip to the delta is, without a doubt, one of the most memorable things to do in Botswana.

4. Head out on bush walks with the San Bushmen

The San Bushmen are the oldest native inhabitants of Southern Africa and have been living in the Kalahari for over 200,000 years. Spending time with them is one of the best ways to understand their culture and customs.

Head out on village walks with the elders, go wildlife tracking with the men, cook with the women, and prepare for an immersive cultural experience.

5. Hang Out With Meerkats

Spending a day observing curious and irresistibly cute meerkats is one of the most fun things to do in Botswana. Sign up for a tour to interact with these clever mammals. Unthreatened by human presence, meerkats often get very close to humans and, if you are lucky, might even use you as a lookout post for potential food sources.

The best place to watch and photograph them is the Makgadikgadi Pans, a salt pan in northeastern Botswana..

6. Enjoy a luxury safari holiday experience

Botswana safari holidays needn’t only be about roughing it out, and the luxury safari camps prove it. The lodges and upscale accommodations in the Moremi Game Reserve and the Okavango Delta provide a luxurious experience amid Botwana’s striking wilderness.

Stay in aesthetically designed rooms and luxury tents, wake up to birdsong, spend your mornings on game drives and boat safaris, take a dip in the resort pool or indulge in soothing spa treatments and savour delectable food. Talk to our consultants about our favourite accommodations in Botswana.

7. Visit Baine’s Boabs in Nxai Pan National Park

Towering over the vast expanse of the Nxai Salt Pans are Baine’s Boabs, thousands of-year-old Boab trees named after the man who discovered them, artist Thomas Baine. But beyond the unusually beautiful Boabs, the Nxai Pan National Park is a photographer and wildlife lover’s dream with wildlife spotting in the most surreal landscapes.

Catch sight of cheetahs, lions, springboks, impalas and a variety of birds, including flamingos, falcons and bustards. Visiting the Nxai Salt Pans takes you away from the crowds of Chobe and the Okavango Delta and is one of the most offbeat things to do in Botswana.

The best time to visit the park is from November to December when the pans fill up with water and animals populate the region in the thousands.

8. Marvel at the Rock Paintings at Tsodilo Hills

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the rock paintings on Tsodilo Hills can be traced back 200,000 years. Take a tour of the main hills – the Male, Female and Child Hills, explore the caves and marvel at the art.

You can also head out on walking trails such as Rhino Trail, Lion Trail and Cliff Trail to admire more than 4,000 paintings and take in the rugged beauty of the landscape.
