Best Time To Visit Egypt

There is no question too small. Start planning your dream trip by talking to our Destination Specialists

Best time to visit Egypt – By season

Winter – Egypt experiences a mild winter that is perfect for sightseeing. The months from November to February are the busiest and most popular times as travellers escape North America and Europe’s cold winters and head to Egypt’s relatively warmer climes.

Spring and autumn – The shoulder seasons of spring (March, April and May) and autumn (September and October) see pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds thronging to the country’s famous attractions making it one of the best times to visit.

Summer – Egypt experiences a dry, hot summer with temperatures often crossing 40°C in many parts of the country from May to August. While it is not the best time to visit the country, northern parts of Egypt and the coastal towns see moderate temperatures, and it is a good time to visit the country if you want an unhurried experience.

Best time to visit Egypt – By activity

Visiting the Pyramids – In terms of weather, the winter months from November to February are the most conducive conditions for exploring the ruins. However, it is also the period when Egypt sees the most visitors. If you want to visit the Pyramids of Giza during a non-touristy period, consider the months of March-April and September-October when these wonders of the world see thinner crowds and pleasant weather conditions.

Cruising the Nile – The best time to go on a Nile cruise is from October to April when the southern cities of Aswan and Luxor experience moderate to cool temperatures.

Red Sea beach vacation – With sparkling waters and rich marine life, the Red Sea is a snorkelling and diving hotspot. While the region is a year-round destination, the period from May to October sees the clearest and warmest water conditions. The air temperature from June to August might be too hot to handle for many, but the months preceding and following the summer months are perfect for discovering an incredible underwater world.

What to pack for Egypt?

Modesty is key while packing for a trip to Egypt. And with predominantly hot, dry weather, so is comfort. Pack clothes that cover the shoulders and cover the knees. Short and long sleeve T-shirts, tops and shirts and skirts, dresses and trousers made from natural, breathable fabrics and with a relaxed or loose fit are most comfortable. A cardigan or scarf is a good item in your suitcase if you need extra coverage. Similar guidelines apply for men; short and long sleeve shirts, T-shirts in linen and cotton, and long shorts, capris, khakis, and loose pants are best for Egypt’s weather and culture. If you are visiting any Red Sea resorts, pack your bathing suit and a cover-up.

There’s plenty of walking and outdoor sightseeing, so bring your most comfortable pairs of shoes and sandals. Protect yourself from the sun while sightseeing with a wide-brimmed sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Take a light jacket or warm sweater if you travel to the country outside the summer months.
