Best Time To Visit Bali

There is no question too small. Start planning your dream trip by talking to our Destination Specialists

Best Time to Visit Bali – By season

Dry season – Bali’s dry season stretches from April to October, when the region sees low precipitation and humidity levels, warm temperatures, and clear water conditions. This makes it the best time to visit Bali. July and August are busiest, with travellers from all over the world thronging beaches and other attractions. The downside to travelling during the dry season is the crowds; expect longer travel times due to heavy traffic.

Wet season – The rainy season or monsoon in Bali starts in November and goes on till March. December, January, and February see the heaviest rainfall. During the wet season, humidity levels increase, as do mosquitoes. Diving conditions are not the best in the monsoon though the landscape turns lush and verdant. However, you can still go sightseeing, explore spiritual pursuits and indulge in some rejuvenation. Even if you are here for the beach, it usually rains for a few hours, after which you can be back in the sun. However, there can be days of heavy rain and thunderstorms where you will need to be indoors.

Despite the rain, December is popular with travellers from colder climes who come to Bali’s warm beaches to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

Best Time to Visit Bali – By Activity

For snorkelling – May to September is the best time to visit Bali for snorkelling and diving adventures. Bali is driest during these months, and water clarity is at its highest.

For sightseeing – The dry season from April to October is the best time to visit Bali for its many temples, beaches, rice fields, and forests. During this time, heat and humidity levels are also manageable.

For beaches – Sunshine-filled days are the norm during May, June, July, August, and September and provide the perfect environment for lazy beach days, fun-filled water activities, and trips to discover hidden strips of gorgeous sand.

Surfing – The most popular time to surf in Bali is during the dry months, from April to October. The west coast has the best waves during the dry season, and the east coast produces good breaks during the wet season, making Bali a year-round surfing destination.

Hiking – The best time to explore Bali’s plentiful hiking opportunities is when the sun is out, and rainfall is at its least, i.e., from April to October.

Landscape and waterfalls – Bali’s alluring rice terraces and lush interiors look their prettiest from November to March. While hiking across paddy fields and trekking through Bali’s dense interiors can be tricky during this peak wet season, a trip in April and May will still let you experience the best of Bali’s striking sceneries and magical waterfalls.

Honeymoon – With a wide range of luxury resorts and boutique accommodations and plenty of cultural activities and outdoor adventures to explore, the best time to visit Bali for a honeymoon is anytime. Bali’s upscale hotels offer plenty of opportunities to create lasting memories — private villas with pools, world-class spas, and fine dining.

What to pack for Bali?

While packing for Bali, consider the wide range of experiences you will likely have there, from temple visits to beach adventures.

Casual clothing: For general sightseeing, carry lightweight, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics. The general dress code is casual. For women, dresses, skirts, shorts, and light tops are suitable. Shorts, linen or cotton pants, and relaxed shirts and T-shirts will work well for men. If you plan to dine at an upscale establishment, take a set of formals.

Extras for temple visits or hiking: There’s a lot of walking involved at temples and markets, so take a pair of comfortable walking shoes or sandals. At the temples, you will have to cover your shoulders and legs (at least up to your knees). A good pair of hiking shoes and mosquito repellent are required if you plan to explore Bali’s interiors or go on a slightly challenging trek.

Beachwear: For times you spend at the beach, pack swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. A sarong or cover-up is a good idea for when you have to step off the beach or away from your swimming pool.

Rain gear: Carry a rain jacket or poncho and an umbrella if you are travelling in the wet months.
